Amahra Spence

Amahra Spence is an artist, cultural producer and spatial practitioner who views her intergenerational work through the lenses of equity, service and community. Through her practice, she has been exploring the possibilities of ‘healing infrastructure’, particularly in the context of generational trauma, Black liberation and the radical imagination.

In 2013, Amahra established MAIA. This is an arts and social justice organisation that attempts to redefine what it means to be an artist; challenge who gets to make their dreams real; and invest in the transformative possibilities of systems change. In 2020, Amahra started the Black Land and Spatial Justice Project to amplify and invest in the creations and possibilities of Black communities through racialised oppression in the context of built, virtual and natural environments.
