Dr Ian Calvert

Dr Ian Calvert is a lecturer in English Literature and Classics with the University of Bristol. His research interests are concerned with English/Classics literary relations c.1550-c.1830 and the reception of Augustan poetry in the long eighteenth century.

He is the author of Virgil’s English Translators: Civil Wars to Restoration which explores the English translators of Virgil in the middle decades of the seventeenth century, from the outbreak of the civil wars through the Interregnum and into the early years of the Restoration.

Alongside these erudite pursuits, Ian is also a lover of popular culture, with worryingly detailed knowledge about Dr Who, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, detective fiction, Harry Potter, and more TV series than he cares to admit here.
