Grief in Literature

In her enlightening lecture, Dr Lesel Dawson, from the University of Bristol, explores how authors across time express grief and communicate imaginatively with those who have died. Focusing in particular on poems by Ben Jonson and Elizabeth Bishop, she investigates the relationship between creativity and grief and consider how expressions of loss are influenced by wider cultural ideas about mourning and death.

After her lecture, Lesel is joined by Dr Ian Calvert, a lecturer in English Literature and Classics with the University of Bristol. Their discussion and following Q&A session have been pre-recorded.

This is a recorded webinar.
